What an adventure! Going to the emergency room is no fun. I’m grateful for the way things turned out.

A week ago, I was playing hide-n-seek with Mags and had an accident. I was running in socks on the hardwood floor and lost my footing. I managed to stop the fall with my head against my credenza and, ultimately, the floor.

There is a photo but I’m too vain to post it. Imagine a large walnut just North West of my right eye.

Luckily I have family that got me to the hospital and waited while I got all the tests. I’m fine but it is frightening to think about what could have happened.

Luckily, it was a slow night at St. Mary’s

The graph above is from the National Institute of Health. It gives us a thoughtful overview of things to reexamine in our homes and our aging relative’s homes. While having coffee this morning and discussing my adventure, my friend shared a similar story with me. His elderly relative slipped on the edge of a rug and fell right onto a coffee table. We both chose the same method to stop the fall; our heads.

We recently added handrails to some stairways in our parents’ homes. Handholds and good nighttime lighting are valuable and affordable ways to avoid falls.

The best way to avoid steps is to live in a home without any. If you’re ready to downsize or get into a single story home, I can help you. There are so many 55+ communities in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City. Spring is around the corner and with the warmer weather comes a flood of homeowners wanting to sell.

Here’s to spring! Spring in the weather and spring in our steps!
