Sparks, Nevada: Family Fun, Affordable Homes & Exciting Developments

Sparks is a much smaller city than Reno but has so much to offer. Homes in Sparks tend to be less expensive on average, too. This article touches on what Sparks has to offer the homebuyer. If it sounds like a place you’d like to plant roots, call me anytime and we can get more in-depth about Sparks. It’s a wonderful little city.

Victorian Avenue Area

Victorian Avenue runs parallel to I-80 past the Nugget Hotel and Casino. Several events take place here every year. Between the Nugget and the Galaxy movie theater, there is a large park. Here you can sample BBQ during the Annual Rib Cook-off over Labor Day weekend. Hot August Nights has many events at this park. It fills up with classic cars, classic tunes, and delicious food. This event is naturally in August. Victorian Avenue is big on holiday parties.

There is an annual Pumpkin-palooza in October, and a Christmastime parade and tree lighting ceremony. The homes tend to be older and charming. The streets are tree-lined and give me a New England vibe.

Wild Island, Legends Center

I lived in this part of Sparks for about 12 years. At the time I was raising a pack of boys and was very grateful for all the area had to offer. Wild Island is a fantastic water park and bowling facility with a mini-golf course and go-cart track. Across the street is Legends Shopping Mall and Galaxy Movie theater. And beyond that is the Sparks Marina.

You can’t go wrong if you have a house full of energy and need an outlet. Mostly I liked living here because it was close to all 3 levels of public schools. My kids could get to school and back on foot. We were close with our neighbors and loved the feeling of camaraderie on our street.

Reinventing the Oddie District

The Oddie District is being retooled as we speak. The Foothill Partners have begun renovating the area including turning a huge warehouse into the Innovation Hub. This will be a workspace for artists and entrepreneurs with food and libations including a brewery and a distillery. The Generator is a 35,000 sq. ft. artist's studio. It is a must-see. I’ve seen many incredible installations being created here. Some were on their way to Burning Man. This area is deep in renovation but will be a strong hub of commerce and activity in the near future.

Sparks, Nevada, offers a vibrant community with something for everyone. From family-friendly entertainment like Wild Island to charming historic districts like Victorian Avenue and exciting developments in the Oddie District, Sparks boasts a unique blend of affordability and growth potential.
