Growing Pains

Union Oyster House, est. 1826

Being separated from my extended family isn’t fun. I grew up near the West Coast, and my Aunts, Uncles, and cousins all live in New England. The one good thing about this is combining family visits with vacations.

Sheds built by my Grampy with what he had available

Tony and I flew back in the middle of October to enjoy a family get-together and see all the beautiful foliage. We visited my ancestral home in which my cousin still lives, and had some of the best seafood ever. I will not even order oysters anymore while I’m in the desert.

Rockport

As big and bustling as the Boston area is, the people are exceedingly friendly. Drivers stop and let you go. We were the only ones honking.  Everyone was kind and helpful. We hit a couple of patches of thick traffic but otherwise, not too bad.

Famous Farnhams. Totally worth the drive.

It made me think about the changes we have been going through here in the Reno/Sparks area. Our growth has been fast and our traffic has increased dramatically. I can get anxious and have to remind myself there is no finish line and this is not a race. You’re only driving to Sprouts for goodness sake!

So, I want to remind all of us, including myself, that we are all in this together; natives, newbies, transplants, everyone residing here or hoping to one day. Remember to breathe and relax and not tailgate the person in front of you who is half a second slower to respond to the green light than you would like. While at the red light, notice the red and yellow leaves. They will be gone any day now. Happy Autumn everyone.
