The darkest day of the year
It’s just a week from December 25. Wasn’t Halloween last week? It’s time to consolidate and cleanse. I began sorting receipts over the weekend and today I put together a standing desk to mitigate all the sitting.
As I have mentioned before, we no longer exchange gifts in my family. We donate to causes we believe in or people we see working hard whom we appreciate. I think most of us can remember having young kids, starting our own small business, or trying to do both. A few extra bucks at this time of year can open the relief valve just a bit.
I’m trying something new this year. Something more self-centered and magical. My friend came across this idea and shared it with me and I think it will be fun. It’s the 12 Wishes list.
On the winter solstice (Dec.20th), I will write down 12 wishes. Each on a separate small piece of paper and place them in a jar.
Then, beginning on the evening of the 20th, I’ll pick one wish from the jar, without looking at it, and burn it. Next, I’ll pull a card to read; this can be an angel card, a tarot card, or a holy card of your choice. I’ll follow the card with a bit of thought or meditation.
Repeat this for the next 12 days and that's it. Simple, magical fun for the darkest day of the year. It will be fun to see which wishes come true. Not everyone has family close by or a close family. This is a winter practice that anyone can do to add some fun to the darkest night of the year.
I wish for all of you to have a positive winter season. Light a fire, or candles and make some wishes. Enjoy a cup of tea and watch the stormy weather come and go. It will be spring in no time.
