Boca Reservoir: a brief history
Our favorite place to go is Boca Reservoir. It is so close that we can get there quickly and beat all the boaters and jet skiers before they disturb the satin-smooth water surface.
Camping; the easy getaway
There are so many things I love about living in Northern Nevada. One of my top reasons is the ability to effortlessly escape into the wilderness.
June Already
I read this yesterday:
“You’re paying a mortgage, whether it’s yours or your landlord’s." We all need somewhere to live. The average rent in our area is well over $1000 a month. That $1000 a month will add up to $120,000 in ten years.
What’s ahead for Summer
It’s already June! In 21 days, the sunshine will slowly begin to fade again. But the heat has not even begun.
Rentals and Generating Wealth

Allergies & Coffee Cake
Does anyone else feel a little out of it? This Mother’s Day weekend was gorgeous. I spent Saturday trimming trees and doing yard work. Saturday evening was spent trying to breathe through all the spring allergens I inhaled through all the outdoor time. Sunday was spent with family. I cooked a nice brunch with a delicious coffee cake. So naturally I had coffee cake for dinner.
Rent Increases
On top of that, it is the time of year when many landlords institute rent increases. I’ve recently had friends reach out to me about rent increases or have been asked to move because the owners have other plans for the home in which they live. It can be very stressful.
Ch Ch Ch Ch Changes
Warmer weather means roadwork. And after the winter we’ve experienced, there will probably be a lot of it. There are some major road improvements happening now and also, coming soon.
Let’s Go Outside
It hit 70* here in Reno this Easter weekend and it was glorious! I spent Saturday raking and cleaning my yard. It’s looking better but I’m paying for it today. This a good reminder to pace myself when doing heavy chores.
Hidden Gem
Northern Nevada has changed a lot over the decades. When I was growing up here in the 70s and 80s, the outsider's perception of us was a town of gambling, brothels, and not much more.
Reno is so much more than that and I’m so glad the old reputation has faded away.
Springtime News
I often get asked, ‘how’s the market?’ The answer isn’t as simple as good or bad. In my monthly market report posted last week, we can see sales were down but homes were selling very close to asking. The market is healthy.

I hope you have all secured any St. Paddy’s Day decorations because it’s a very blustery day out there. Just a continuation of the wild weather we’ve been experiencing this long winter.
